The Dimensions Oversight Committee was created by a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Governor and the County Executive of Prince George's County on February 20, 2004 (amended April 20, 2004). The Committee was to make recommendations to resolve the financial crisis of the Prince George's County Hospital System, operated by Dimensions Health Corporation. The System's hospital facilities are a critical part of the region's healthcare infrastructure, serving many uninsured and underinsured patients, Medicaid recipients, and indigents. Facilities include a designated trauma center and the sole provider of high-risk obstetrical services for Southern Maryland.
By July 2004, the Committee had selected an independent hospital management consultant firm to work onsite providing interim senior management and implement immediate cost-saving measures and long-term policies to resolve operational difficulties. However, the Committee found that operational reforms were not enough to resolve the financial crisis.
On January 21, 2005, the Committee submitted its final report. The Memorandum of Understanding terminates on October 1, 2006.
